UNESCO between Two Phases of the World Summit on the Information Society – Final Document

482 representatives met in Moscow to discuss Russia-UNESCO cooperation and determine the next steps of UNESCO’s involvement in building the Information Society with regards to culture, science, education, communications and information, with “cultural diversity in knowledge societies” in the foreground. Official recommendations were made encompassing: Information/Knowledge Society Development Policies, Information/Knowledge Society Research, Human Capacity Building for Knowledge Societies, Education in Knowledge Societies, Science and Innovations in Knowledge Societies, Cultural Diversity in Knowledge Societies, Universal Access to Public Domain Information, Development of Communications and Freedom of Expression, Stakeholders’ Partnership and Cooperation/NGO Role in the Information Society, Business Environment for Knowledge Societies, and Policies of Cultural and Scientific Heritage/Digitization and Preservation.
