Abstract:
Over 600 participants met in Tokyo to address the next step in building the information society: a ubiquitous network society where it is possible to easily connect “anytime, anywhere, by anything and anyone.” The steps towards reaching this goal are: bridging the digital divide through enabling universal access to ICTs; knowledge sharing and capacity building focusing on bandwidth, content development, and human resources development; building a development-oriented and inclusive network society focused on human needs; developing core technologies such as RFID, sensor network, and mobile communications; and ensuring a safe, reliable, and harmonized environment for building the global network society.
