Seoul-Gyeonggi Declaration on the Equal Participation of Women in the Information Society

A declaration of 36 countries assembled in Seoul from June 24-25, 2005. Reaffirms principles from the Beijing Platform for Action and the Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women, as well as paragraph 12 of the WSIS Declaration of Principles. Recognizes the most critical aspects of implementing the WSIS Plan of Action relates to facilitating gender equality in ICT capacity building. Makes 16 recommendations to stakeholders related to women’s development and participation priorities in building the information society and their ICT rights. Also supports developing sex-disaggregated data and the widespread use of open-access software.
