The Millennium Development Goals Report 2011

Abstract:
A progress report on reaching the eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015 focusing particularly on developing countries. Shows that the global poverty rate is expected to decline well under the 23 per cent target, some of the poorest countries have achieved universal primary education, improved immunization access has led to lower child mortality, deaths from malaria, HIV/AIDS, and tuberculosis have decreased, and every region has improved access to clean drinking water. Despite progress, the world’s poorest continue to suffer because of their sex, age, ethnicity, or disability, and we must intensify collective action and sustainable economic growth to reach the MDGs by 2015. (The eight goals are: eradicate extreme poverty and hunger, achieve universal primary education, promote gender equality and empower women, reduce child mortality, improve maternal health, combat HIV/AIDS, malaria & other diseases, ensure environmental sustainability, and develop a global partnership for development.)
