Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA)

Abstract: 
One of the Internet's first institutions, IANA is responsible for the technical coordination of codes and numbering systems used in protocols to keep the Internet functioning smoothly. IANA manages domain names, coordinates the global pool of IP and AS numbers, and manages protocols' numbering systems. IANA is operated by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), an international nonprofit organization set up by the Internet community for the purpose of helping IANA. IANA is committed to providing its services in an "unbiased, responsible, and effective manner."‌
