Implications of Electric Power Sector Restructuring on Climate Change Mitigation in Argentina

Abstract: 
This study examines the prospects for implementation of climate change mitigation options the recently restructured Argentine electric power industry. It investigates the structure and regulations of the Argentine electricity system and analyzes the factors influencing current technology choices, both in terms of power generation and end-use consumption. The paper goes on to examine international experiences in promoting renewable energy and energy-efficiency technologies, and considers the applicability of these various policy mechanisms within the Argentine context.
