Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to assess the level of counterfeits entering the U.S. defense supply chain. Data revealed that 39% of companies and organizations experienced counterfeit electronics during a four-year period... from original component manufacturers, distributors and brokers, circuit board assemblers, prime contractors and subcontractors, and DoD agencies. The amount of counterfeits has been increasing, and counterfeit incidents include multiple versions of DoD qualified parts and components.
This increase in incidents is exacerbated by weaknesses in inventory management, procurement procedures, recordkeeping, reporting practices, inspection and testing protocols, and lack of communication across industry and government organizations.
