Women, population and sustainable development in South Asia

Abstract:
"The following key issues that countries in South Asia must address to achieve sustainable development are focused on: 1. population growth, 2. migration and urbanization, 3. poverty eradication and the provision of basic social services for all, 4. empowerment of women, 4. gender equality and equity, including special attention to the girl child, and 5. reproductive health, family planning and sexual health, including HIV/AIDS prevention. Any effective strategy will require development partnerships between governments, nongovernment organizations, multilateral and bilateral agencies, the private sector, and civil society. Increased resource mobilization and strong advocacy at all levels will also be required for population and sustainable development."
