Abstract:
Outlines UNESCO's vision for promoting the peaceful and sustainable development of Member Nations through six key pillars. These ideological pillars are respectively: the science to empower society to create and innovate, the science to manage freshwater natural resources, the science and services for the ocean and coasts, the science to manage the earth, its ecosystem, and biodiversity, the science to build safe and prosperous communities, and the science of a desirable future for the world. Combined, these pillars serve to promote the application and advancement of science to the betterment of our global environment. In terms of policy recommendations, UNESCO pairs its policy assessment with the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in terms of environmental sustainability, water supply, sanitation, food security, and poverty aid. UNESCO's main mission revolves around peace building operations and supporting the MDGs through science and technology reform.
