A sustainable population strategy for Australia

Abstract:
This issue paper and its three appendices (reports from each of the independent Sustainable Population Advisory Panels) identifies and explores issues surrounding Australia’s increasing population and its effects on the welfare of the country. The report considers the difference in the impacts of the population issue at the national, regional and local level and identifies the various causes of stress at these different scales. The report identifies the impact of growing population from the perspective of three key dimensions: environmental sustainability, economic sustainability and sustainable communities - highlighting the important aspects in each dimension that would be affected by population growth.
