Past Imperfect: Dealing with the Past in Northern Ireland and Societies in Transition

This publication brings together the papers presented at the 'Dealing with the Past: Reconciliation Processes and Peace Building' Conference hosted by the Initiative on Conflict Resolution and Ethnicity (INCORE) in 1998 and draws on the ideas of the participants to further the debate dealing with the past in Northern Ireland, and with other ethnic conflicts throughout the world. For instance, the instituting of a truth commission in Ireland is proposed. Historical memory in Guatemala and the South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission are also discussed.
