Abstract:
This paper presents a visualization tool that is able to provide awareness surrounding mission-centric cybersecurity situations. The tool works in a way is inherently tailored to higher-level information regarding cyberdefense missions. In the study, the visualization tool is applied to data logs from a competition—International Capture The Flag (iCTF)—that is designed to be very similar to general cybersecurity scenarios that the military could potentially face. The paper concludes by reviewing the results of the iCTF and notes that the areas that they assumed would be most in need of defense were in fact the areas that were most targeted by cyberattacks.
