Investigation and analysis of a floating population's settlement intention and environmental concerns: A case study in the Shawan River Basin in Shenzhen, China

Abstract: 
A case study of the floating population in the Shawan River Basin in Shenzhen, China. The focus is on the relationship between the environment concerns of the floating population and the intention of settlement. The socio-demographic characteristics of the floating population were collected and analyzed, such as age, gender, employment, living conditions, and income, etc. The environment perception surveyed include concerns about water environment, atmospheric environment, waste and noise, etc. It was found that a much higher proportion of the floating population in Shenzhen has a positive settlement intention in Shenzhen than the population in other cities, despite the heavy water pollution in the Basin area.
