Hundreds of Bounty Hunters Had Access to AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint Customer Location Data for Years

Abstract:
In a landmark story on data protection and data use consent, it was revealed that telecom companies were selling location data, meant for 911 first responders, to bounty hunters and bail bonds companies. This data was requested under the pretense of public safety, but as with many forms of data, has the potential for misuse. Relevant to data protection regulation, National Policies, Cyber Norms, and International Law (especially considering GDPR).
