Engineering Sustainability: A Technical Approach to Sustainability

Abstract:
In order to access engineering sustainability, several critical factors need to be both investigated and discussed. These factors include proper selection of resources that consider criteria for sustainability, the use of sustainable processed, improvement of the efficiency of resource application and engineering processes, environmental conservation with regards to engineering activities in the attempt to lessen harmful impacts on the environment, and fulfillment of other important aspects of sustainability, namely economics and equity. It is the author’s belief that through the consideration of these critical factors engineering sustainability can be accomplished. Moreover, it is through engineering sustainability that we can strive to truly achieve overall sustainability and improve the general living standard. The use of tools to encourage efficiency are vital to attaining energy sustainability, tools such as energy analysis and life cycle analysis.
