WMO WSIS Thematic Meeting on ICT applications in natural disaster reduction – Chairman’s Report

States that ICTs are critical for collecting and exchanging earth observations and delivering weather information and warnings to support safety and development. Developing countries with limited access to ICTs are most at risk to natural disasters. The meeting examined the existing WMO approach to operational hydrometeorological systems supporting natural disaster reduction, discussed the future direction of WMO operational ICT systems, and examined satellite-based ICT systems.
