Abstract:
This overview first explores the substantive issues arising from the overlap of trade and environmental norms. Second, international treaties with potential implications for trade and environmental linkages are described. Third, a discussion follows illustrating how disputes over trade and environmental goals can serve as indicators of trade and environment linkages. Fourth, a brief outline of other potential indicators useful to furthering one's understanding of the issues detailed at the outset t will be described. Fifth, potential and actual national responses to these conflicts are explored. Sixth, the potential influence of remotely sensed data on the linkages between trade and the environment is outlined.
