NIES conducts basic studies on air pollution, water pollution, industrial pollution, the ozone layer, soil contamination, noise, vibration, offensive odor and ground subsidence; searches for countermeasures to these threats and conducts more intensive research both on global environmental changes due to emerging industry and on conservation of the natural environment.
