The national determinants of deforestation in sub-Saharan Africa

Abstract:
This article discusses possible explanations for the relatively low rates of deforestation in sub-Saharan Africa. The article concludes that there is a strong correlation between forest dryness and high deforestation rates, which is likely because tax revenue due to oil drilling and mineral mining has caused many to migrate into cities in wetter regions in the Congo basin. This has reduced agriculture related deforestation.
