Modeling Study of Air Pollution Due to the Manufacture of Export Goods in China's Pearl River Delta

Abstract:
A rising issue in the debate over a nation's sustainability status is whether the nation properly accounts for pollution if it moves offshore by outsourcing manufacturing and other industrial processes. This article analyzes air pollution in China's Pearl River Delta, which produces more than $100 billion of goods annually for export to North America, Europe, and other parts of Asia. It includes measurements of pollutants such as sulfur dioxide and nitrous oxides.
