The Environmental Pollution Perception of Residents in Coal Mining Areas: A Case Study in the Hancheng Mine Area, Shaanxi Province, China

Abstract: 
The perception of environmental pollution of the residents in coal mining areas in China were studied. Hancheng, Shaanxi Province was taken as a case study. The perception of residents on air pollution, water pollution, noise pollution, sanitation, health were surveyed via questionnaire. Coal processing was considered the major cause of environmental problems (32%). In addition, attributes of recipients, including gender, age, education level, occupation, length of residence and proximity to mine are also related to the perception of environmental pollution to study the effect of the socioeconomic status.
