Co-operative Programme for Monitoring and Evaluation of the Long-Range Transmission of Air Pollutants in Europe (EMEP)

Abstract:
The Co-operative Programme for Monitoring and Evaluation of the Long-Range Transmission of Air Pollutants in Europe (EMEP) is required by the Convention on Long-Range Transboundary Air Pollution (LRTAP) to assess and report regularly on emissions, concentrations and depositions of air pollutants. It is also required to report on the quantity and significance of transboundary fluxes and related exceedances to critical loads and threshold levels. EMEP consists of collections of emissions data, measurements of precipitation and air quality, and subsequent model of atmospheric movement of air pollutants. Various stages of this process are performed by the Meteorological Synthesizing Centre - West, the Meteorological Synthesizing Centre - East, the Chemical Coordinating Centre, and the Centre for Integrated Assessment Modelling. This website contains detailed country-specific data, distribution maps for several chemical emissions, and transboundary flux data.
