Abstract:
The Asian green revolution tripled grain yields through agrochemical intensification of monocultures, or single crops. However, there are serious environmental costs associated with monocultures, requiring reevaluation. In Malawi, this study compared the productivity, profitability, and sustainability of monoculture maize to legume-diversified maize and concludes that diversification of maize is a superior strategy for food security.
