The web-site provides scientific data for research on Earth's snow, ice, and climate data in various formats. It advances research and knowledge on the Earth's cryosphere. The NSIDC holds and provides access to large volumes of data ranging from text files to remote sensing data from NASA. began in 1976 as an analog archive and information center, the World Data Center for Glaciology.
