Introduction to Public-Key Cryptography

Abstract:
A discussion of Mozilla's plan for ensuring safe and secure products through public-key cryptography. Mozilla products include and allow encrypted email, form/object signing, single sign-on, and Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol. Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is useful for communication between computers, but because it involves multiple computers, TCP/IP enables third party interference. This can allow eavesdropping, tampering, impersonation, spoofing, and misrepresentation. Encryption and certificates are used to authenticate information.
