Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act

Abstract: 
This law that was passed in 1994, during the Clinton Administration, allowed for governmental wiretapping of phones. It was the legal backing that allowed the federal government to conduct surveillance, and since then it has been expanded to allow surveillance of other information technologies.
