Workshop on Improving the Environment Performance of Government

Abstract:
Noting that the environmental performance of governments is a key theme in the international debate on sustainable consumption and production patterns, Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development Members agreed to a Council Recommendation intended to urge Member country governments to reduce the environmental impacts of their day-to-day operations and decision-making processes. This publications summarizes discussion held in October 1996 on a number of key issues Member countries are facing as they strive to "green" their governments: target setting; procurement policies; environmental management systems for government agencies and promoting action at all levels of government.
