Sustainability of mountain oases in Oman: Effects of agro environmental changes on traditional cropping systems

Abstract:
In this paper, a landscape analysis was used to assess the natural resources of mountain oases in northern Oman. Initially, the author developed an existing digital elevation model (DEM) of the Oman Mountains. The most affective DEM of this region was pulled out from NASA’s Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) which contains numerous data. The two data sources were merged and buffered. All of the collected data either from hydrologic modeling, Landsat satellite images or geologic survey data were used in this paper to study the sustainability of all oases in Oman.
