Millennium Development Goal 1: Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger

The first Millennium Development Goal (MDG) aims to halve the proportion of the world's population whose income is less than $1 a day, halve the proportion of people suffering from hunger, and achieve full employment for all, including women and young people. The global financial crisis in the latter half of the last decade stymied progress in reaching these targets, which are to be met by 2015.
