Effects of parcelization and land divestiture on forest sustainability in simulated forest landscapes

Abstract:
This article examines the rise in ownership parcelization of forest land divestiture of industrial forest land in the United States. The article looks towards timber management to maintain a sustainable forestry. The study utilizes the HARVEST simulation model to simulate and study landscape pattern. The simulation found ownership parcelization of forest land does not reduce the volume of wood but reduces the patch size. The simulation found that land divestiture reduces the volume of wood extracted and reduces the patch size.
