Corporate Cybersecurity Is Becoming Geopolitical. Are U.S. Tech Companies Ready?

Abstract:
In this article, Ben Buchannan discusses how hackers from international campaigns have an effect on the cybersecurity of corporations, not just national security. He brings up Microsoft, Facebook, Google, and the cybersecurity company FireEye that were victims of hacking attempts in 2018. He then states that the corporations are not only the victims of the attacks, but also responsible for defending themselves in these situations as it is not a concern of national security. From an economic standpoint, it is therefore valuable to a company to prepare and push back against these attacks because it places businesses in an increasingly vulnerable position. The author asserts that these attacks are going to become more and more frequent and that United States companies are woefully unprepared for this. Additionally, there is a key emphasis that these are foreign attacks on individual companies, but that businesses in general are interconnected security-wise, so an attack on one company increases the probability that similar companies could have attacks.
