Consistent with its goal to "incorporate fundamental principles of ecology and democracy into international law," CIEL is working to advance public participation and transparency in trade-related institutions, particularly the World Trade Organization the affiliation of the contracting parties to the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, or GATT, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development OECD, and institutions established under the North American Free Trade Agreement NAFTA.
